THE NEW MOOD

This year we see the world through fresh eyes and live laissez-faire with The Upside’s ‘New Mood’ – a joyful riff on old school athletica flavoured with French surf culture, a collection that looks back but lives forward. From Bondi to Biarritz, the bohemian beach-chic of this Basque surf spot is layered throughout the collection with confident colour, artful finishes and a sense of European ease. It is the complexity of life that makes it ‘magique’ so we contrast our coastal nonchalance with 70s preppy silhouettes. These retro sportswear lines underpin the Ace Set – a soft ribbed tennis capsule in sync with the Australian Open followed up by the Savannah story – our debut golfing capsule in knitted jacquard. 

We embrace the optimism of 2022 with spirited prints like Sabal setting the tone for the season with its Tropical Floral motif accompanied by Breton stripes, sophisticated Olive tones, oceanic Ultramarine hues, zesty Grapefruit Red and radiant White Leopard jacquard. 

February finds itself in good company with a ripe holiday palette the likes of crisp Apple Green, punchy Flamingo Pink, British Racing Green punctuated with Polka Dots, Rose Cheetah (this season’s flirty leopard) and a moody 70s Plaid. March rides the wave with a dark ‘n stormy Python print, buttery Macadamia Houndstooth, a diagonal Cosmic Stripe motif, earthy Turmeric tones, seamless Surf space-dye, sweet Guava shades and a refreshing Japanese Blue. For all the joy of newness we still stay true to the classics with black, white, navy and marle peppered throughout the season. 

We reminisce on simpler times with nostalgic touches like texture, shapes and treatment techniques – think Boucle, flared lines, super soft peached fabrics, exaggerated collars, over-dyes & mineral washes for that ‘lived in’ look of an old favourite. Our obsession with outfitting continues, with all styles designed to play well together – mixed or matched this French-girl hack ensures eclectic cool that just works. Our love affair with old school athletica also endures with plenty of preppy knitwear to elevate our commitment to comfort.
